SSL certificates are a must for any website, if you are looking to make all your online transactions very secure. There are different types of SSL certificates that are available in the market place from different SSL providers and from different SSL certificate vendors. If your organization is having a single domain name but running different websites with different sub-domain names and if you are looking to make your online transactions very secure on the internet then wild card certificates are the best fit for your business.
The Wildcard Certificate is a cost effective and efficient means of securing all sub domains with out the need to manage multiple SSL certificates. Whether you are a web host or large company, the benefits of a Wildcard Certificate are quite apparent. Through a single wild card Certificate you can secure as many sub domains, as you want belonging to a specified domain name as you can use. For organizations hosting a single domain name but with different sub domains (e.g. secure.ssl.com, www.ssl.com, signup.ssl.com), wildcard certificates are a cost effective and efficient means of securing all sub domains without the need to manage multiple SSL certificates.
Ssl.com has the widest selection of wildcard SSL certificates. It offers almost all the major brands of SSL certificates. Some of them include XRamp Enterprise Wildcard Certificate, Geotrust True Business ID Wildcard Certificate, Comodo Platinum Wildcard Certificate, Geotrust Power Server ID Wildcard Certificate, and many more. These are the most cost effective wild card certificates that are available. There are even huge amounts of discounts on offer for most of these purchases.

If you want to test some of these certificates before you actually make a buy in your test environment, then there are free Wildcard certificates for you. These Free SSL Certificates allows you to test SSL in their test environment prior to rolling out a SSL certificate in your production environment. You will also have an opportunity to experience creating a CSR, enrolling and installing a digital certificate for a particular brand of SSL certificates.

The SSL protocol allows client/server applications to communicate in a way designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, and data forgery. SSL protects network access, online communications, and digital transactions by enabling a secure channel between your servers and your users. With SSL in place, information transmitted from your online store (e.g., via web forms) is encrypted before it is sent over the Internet.

I have not got SSL on my shopping site, but the sales are controlled by Paypal, so I am hoping it is secure as the transactions are done on their site

I could only understood from the thread that SSL is a process through which a person can secure his online transactions and if many websites are getting operated under a same domain name , then it helps to prevent the site from being tampered and any kind of data forgery. What actually is SSL ? Is it any sort of program or any sort of server ?

An SSL certificate verifies that your site’s encryption is real and from a trusted source. If nothing else, it avoids the awful warning page that browsers display when they encounter invalid, untrusted, or expired certificates
